Spirulina – the power microalgae

Spirulina, also known as arthrospira platensis, is a tiny greenish-blue sweet water microalga, that grows in alkaline waters of Mexico, Asia and South America. The algae originated 3.5 billion years ago and are one of the oldest organisms around the world. Spirulina has a longstanding tradition as a food and was previously grown by the Aztecs from the Lake Texoco, a sea that is almost dry today, in the region of modern day Mexico City. The Aztecs already knew about the power of the microalgae: they used dry spirulina in their cakes and soups.

Amazing with coconut water

I bought this to make a health drink I saw on tik tok. I use a pinch of blue spirulina with two freshly squeezed lemons into a large glass bottle. Then I add a pinch of Himalayan pink salt, some agave syrup to sweeten it and then all the coconut water. Highly recommend this drink, it’s very refreshing and always hits the spot.
